Brossel Frères SA is a former Belgian manufacturer of trucks , buses and railcars , established at the Chaussée de Mons, 913 in Brussels , in 1912. The company, named after its founders, the brothers Paul, Louis and Henri Brossel, ceased operations in 1968
First repair shop, the company markets after the First World War the trucks of the Swiss manufacturer Arbenz which quickly ceases its activity and which they will buy equipment.
From 1924, they produce vehicles of their design.
Two buy-backs occurred in the 1930s, with the acquisition of Brussels competitors that ceased their activities: the Bovy Automobiles Automobiles SA in 1930 and the Pipe factories (formerly Belgian Car Construction Company ) in 1932. the small utilities will be under the name Bovy-Pipe, while heavy industrial vehicles will keep the Brossel appellation, as well as railway production.
The SNCB railcar 4605 , powered by Brossel.
Brossel produced for the SNCB several series of light - rail diesel railcars for secondary lines in the 1930s and 1950s.
It also supplied the Belgian Army with TAL type 780 B cannons.
After the Second World War, the development of diesel engines by a small builder became difficult - a fortiori against foreign companies that had supported the war effort - and the company is sourcing from the British manufacturer Leyland .
The company also delivers numerous buses and trams to the SNCV , either in its own or in collaboration with coachbuilders, in particular Jonckheere .
In 1968 , the company was finally bought by Leyland, which would not be permanent.
The last vehicles to be called Brossel are the BL 55 buses , which circulated in Lille
