N9896 was a boeing 747-100 that was delivered to Delta airlines in 1970.They ordered 747's for a service to London but the CAB (who regulated the industry at the time) denied Delta the route.Delta used the 747's on the Atlanta to Los angeles route (via dallas) but they were two big and there was not enough demand.Delta eventually sold the 747's back to boeing and bought Lockheed L1011's instead. This aircraft was leased by boeing to china airlines for a while before being bought by Pan am.In 1991 Evergreen international bought the aircraft and operated it for a while. It's now preserved at the Evergreen Aviation Museum.
