Exceptionally, the 38th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans took place on September 28 and 29 following the events of May 1968. Ford entered its GT40, which was the big favorite after two consecutive victories in the legendary race at La Sarthe. The number 9 car, entrusted to the Pedro Rodriguez/Lucien Bianchi crew, emerged victorious after two laps around the clock and 331 laps of the track. This victory strengthened the American manufacturer's hold on endurance racing. The Gulf livery and its sky blue and orange colors became a legend.
