"The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company" introduced a completely new type of tire in 1929, namely a low pressure tire named "Air Wheel". In press releases, it was also listed as the "Musselman Type", in reference to its inventor Alvin J. Musselman. The Goodyear company acquired the patent rights and hoped for a breakthrough, in particular to equip aircraft and vehicles transporting heavy goods. For publicity purposes, the company had a huge tire with dimensions “…twelve feet high and one foot wide…” or 3.6 meters high. In order to promote this new tire nationwide, the factory had a special car made by "Flxible Co". The basis of the vehicle was a Buick, built in 1929, whose chassis has been lengthened. The special structure of this minibus provided plenty of space for passengers inside, with each row of seats made more accessible by separate doors. However, the focus was not on this vehicle, but on the powerful and large "Air Wheel", which was literally pulled behind like a "fifth wheel" via a hinged swingarm at the rear. This advertising vehicle made a promotional tour in 24 states of the USA, for two years, covering a total of 19,312 km or 12,000 miles on the clock. The success of the tour was apparently enjoyed by Goodyear management, as a second identical Buick was made. From then on, the two vehicles continued their journey together through the USA.
