The M3 Lee, also known as the "General Lee" in the British military, was a medium tank designed by the United States and used by the Allies in World War II. The tank was named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Design began in July 1940, and the first "Lees" were operational in late 1941. The M3 Lee was one of the first Allied tanks used in the war.
